House prices rose again in March, by 1.1%, according to Halifax, following a 1.6% dip in February.
House prices are now 9.1% above last April, when they were at their lowest.
Nationwide also reported a rise in house prices last month, of 0.7%. Like Halifax, it had also reported a dip in February.
Halifax says the average house price now stands at £168,521, while Nationwide’s average price is £164,519.
Halifax housing economist Martin Ellis said: `There are signs that an increase in the number of properties available for sale is beginning to reduce the imbalance between supply and demand. This should help to contain the upward pressure on house prices.`
