The Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) has welcomed the Communities and Local Government Select Committee report which highlights the need to address key issues about future housing finance.
Gavin Smart, CIH director of policy and practice, said:
`The future operating environment is going to be all about the economy and its impact on housing. There is a crucial debate to have, which encompasses the whole housing system - including private developers and fiscal (tax) levers - about financial models and making sure that we have a housing system that delivers in the longer term. CIH will be leading this debate at Housing 2012 in Manchester.`
We are really pleased that the points we made when we gave evidence are present throughout this report; the operation of the council housing finance system, the future of funding for affordable housing, the future of ALMOs, and the impacts of welfare reform. CIH is very clear that government needs to systematically consider the future of housing finance across the whole housing system. We hope that government will acknowledge and react to this in their response to the Select Committee report.
